Matters to consider and actions that may be taken when a loved one's death is imminent:
Ensure pre-planning items are complete and if there are any changes formalize those changes.
Ask the wishes of the one passing away and abide by them as much as possible.
Inform relatives/friends/colleagues etc. who should know and may need an opportunity to say goodbye.
Keep the atmosphere pleasant around the person which can include ambient lighting, soft music which can be spiritual if desired.
According to Sanatan Dharma a few drops of gangajal (Ganges water) are given in the mouth of the dying when apparently close to death.
There are instances where an expedited funeral/cremation may be desired. If you wish to have a quick cremation/funeral:
Explore the funeral home options and contact the one you choose.
Ask the doctor how the death certificate can be sent (this can be faxed or a picture can be emailed or texted) to the funeral home.
The chosen funeral home peruses the Cremation Certificate and it may take up to 5 business days in case of a natural death. Request the funeral home to expedite getting the Cremation Certificate issued by the Coroner. This may involve additional cost.
It is legal for family or friends to arrange for a burial or cremation themselves. However, there are steps to be taken to ensure it is done properly. Refer Burial/Disposition Permit
